The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released Prithvi Shaw from the third edition of U-19 Challenger Trophy to allow the youngster to play in Mumbai’s next Ranji tie, a report in TOI suggests.
He will now play Mumbai’s last Ranji Trophy game against Tripura at the Wankhede stadium, starting on November 25.

Shaw was to lead team ‘A’ in the U-19 tournament, which is a platform for junior cricketers to ensure a World Cup berth for themselves. However, the right-handed batsman has already shown his prowess in first-class cricket thus making himself an automatic entrant in the World Cup squad.
Shaw has five centuries to his name in seven first-class matches, and it would not be unfair to say he is inching towards India cap, as he has scored runs against top-class bowling attack in Duleep Trophy as well.

Though Rahul Dravid, the India A and U-19 coach, has said Shaw will be playing the junior World Cup, it would be interesting to see till when senior selectors continue to test the Mumbai player.
The U-19 Challenger Trophy will have a fourth team in the form of Sri Lanka U-19, which has agreed to send its team. Their inclusion makes the tri-series into a quadrangular tournament.
BCCI is yet to name the captain of the team A, who will replace Shaw. Abhishek Sharma and Himanshu Rana will lead India B and C team, respectively. The tournament will get played in Mumbai from November 26 to December 2.
