Problem of choice for Virat Kohli

Having resources in scare causes a big problem and affects the result and outcomes but what happens when resources are present in abundance? Does it lead to a problem?

The answer is yes when we have resources in abundance and when we have to choose from them, it leads to a problem of choice. The Problem here is choosing the best resource out of the available present available. A problem of choice have now erupted in the Indian team and will be a great headache for Captain Virat Kohli on the upcoming West Indies tour. The form of KL Rahul in the IPL that concluded a month ago and his form on Zimbabwe tour is marvellous and he being an opener poses a threat to inconsistent Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan has not been in great form in last few outings with the bat as his form has moved to and fro in the past few months. He sometimes has played quite well-sailing team’s boat to a victory irrespective of the format but on occasions, he has failed miserably leaving the team in tatters. So it can be said that consistency is the key which Shikhar Dhawan lacks.

So is it the right time to give a full-fledged series to KL Rahul? Well, on current form – yes, as in the ODI series against Zimbabwe he scored 196 runs in 3 matches at an average of 196.00.

One may say that Zimbabwe is one of the weakest team in world cricket but making a century on debut is not a cake walk for any player. KL Rahul should be praised and applauded for this effort as he became the first Indian to achieve the milestone. To bring century with a six was the cherry on the cake.

So with the current form of KL Rahul, the place of Shikhar Dhawan may be in danger as Murali Vijay has already established himself as a permanent opener in Test cricket, so surely we may see the deserving candidate KL Rahul getting a chance in place of Shikhar Dhawan in upcoming West Indies series. Still dropping Dhawan in place of KL Rahul will be a challenging task for the captain Virat Kohli as Dhawan possesses an edge over KL in terms of experience and also considering the fact that Dhawan opens the innings in all three formats of the game.

This issue and the good form of KL Rahul is blessing in disguise for both Virat Kohli and M.S. Dhoni as Dhoni will too encounter this problem in the upcoming white ball matches later this year. He will have to decide amongst the two batsmen.

So, who will be India’s opener in 2016?

The answer lies depends on the fine sense of judgment of the captain.
