When Pakistan last toured England in 2010, it was a tour worth forgetting as Pakistan was surrounded by all sorts of negativity. The visitors had a horror outing in England as the hosts demolished them 3-1 in the four-match series. However, there was just one bright spot in that Pakistani team in the form of fiery left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz.
Riaz, who made his test debut on that particular tour, had a dream debut as he grabbed a five-wicket haul to flatten the England batting lineup at the Oval. Riaz was also termed as the find of that ill-fated tour for Pakistan. However, things haven’t been too smooth for the pacer, as he has been in and out of the side owing to inconsistent performances. With Pakistan touring England after 6 years, Riaz admits that he is far more accurate and confident now.
“I’ve always tried to bowl fast but maybe I haven’t risen to the occasion in the same way, but for the past two years I’ve been bowling really well when my team has required it, which has really made a name for me,” said Riaz in a press meet.
The left arm pacer admitted that there were a lot of hopes pinned on his performance. “There’s a lot of expectations on me, but I’ve always worked hard in the past, I am doing nothing different, I am just getting more accurate and more confident in myself, so that’s the confidence that is taking me along. By the grace of God, I am performing really well for my team and I want to keep going like that,” Riaz said.
