After going for plenty of runs early on in the innings, Indian bowlers lead by offie R Ashwin made their way back into the match as they restricted Ireland to just 259 in 49 overs.
After electing to bat, Ireland got off to a great start as their openers William Porterfield and Paul Stirling put on 89 runs for the first wicket before Ashwin struck to get rid of the dangerous Stirling. Porterfield and Niall O’Brien carried on the good work and at one stage it looked like that they would their team past a total of 300 but Indian bowlers made crucial strides at regular intervals to stop them for a below-par score. With 206/3 in 39 overs, Ireland lost their last 7 wickets for just 53 runs and got bundled out for 259 without playing their full quota of overs. Ashwin the best of the Indian bowlers as he finished with the figures of 10-1-38-2 whereas Mohammad Shami, who was expensive early on, took 3 wickets.
