Though Indian bowlers are being punished by the Sri Lankan batsmen in the third innings of the game, the Indian all-rounder R Ashwin is continuing to tumble records. The moment when Ashwin bowled out debutant Malinda Pushpakarma, the 30-year old player became first ever bowler to take 100 wickets in Test cricket while opening the bowling.

Though Ashwin had moved ahead of Hugh Trumble in terms of most wickets while opening the bowling quite ago but he was yet to touch the 100 mark. He achieved the milestone on the penultimate day of the second Test against Sri Lanka and registered his name in the record list by bagging his 100th wicket while opening the bowling. The way he is used as a bowler by the Indian skipper, there can be a case when he might go on to touch the 150 wickets mark soon as he is the go to man for the skipper whenever the pitch is assisting spinners.
Player | Wickets |
Ravichandran Ashwin | 100* |
Hugh Trumble | 93 |
Bobby Peel | 88 |
Rangana Herath | 85 |
Colin Blythe | 74 |
Talking of the game, it has a been a tough game for India as after dominating the first two days and the first session of day 3, the Sri Lankan team has made a comeback and has punished the Indian bowlers. Though Indian team is sure of a win here, there is a delay which is testing the patience of the fielding team. It was visible yesterday when skipper Virat Kohli was frustrated with Lankan batsmen batting with grit.

It was surprising to see as the pitch was same and also the Indian bowlers but this time, the only difference was that the home batsmen realised the importance of their wicket and did do not gift it to the visitors. In addition to that, the number of dropped catches by Indian players too played its parts, thus admitting the Lankan batsmen.
