Ravichandran Ashwin has spun out South Africa as the Indian spinner has taken 7 wickets in the second innings and 12 in the match in the third Test of the four-match series at Jamtha, Nagpur. India handed South Africa a 124 runs loss in three days to win the series 2-0. India victory against South Africa also ended South Africa undefeatable series record on foreign shore since 2006.

Indian captain Virat Kohli hailed Ashwin as the world class bowler after becoming the first Indian captain to win the series against South Africa at home since Sourav Ganguly led Indian team’s 2004-05 series victory.

Ashwin has taken 5 wickets in the first innings to bundle out South Africa for 79. Ashwin has been phenomenal this year. He ha taken 20 wickets in Sri Lanka in India first ever Test series victory against Sri Lanka after 22 years.

“Ashwin is a world-class spinner, probably the best in the world right now. He’s one of the main reasons why we were able to win back-to-back series. He’s a consistent performer and it’s a pleasure to have him in the side,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony in Nagpur’s Vidharbha Cricket Association stadium.

Ashwin gave India the first breakthrough on the second day afternoon after Imran Tahir and Simon Harmer bowled out India for 173 in the second innings. Dean Elgar was the first victim of Ashwin.

The Chennai off-spinner continued to wreck havoc on the South African batting line-up. He made South Africa’s talismanic batsman AB de Villiers to dance on the track.

However, Ashwin got timely assistance from leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who has taken three wickets.

Ashwin finally ended the match with 12 wickets that made him the leading wicket-taker of the series. Ashwin has also become the highest wicket-taker of this calendar year.

The series has added another feather to Ashwin ‘s 31 matches old career. He featured in the list of bowlers with most wicket after 31 Test matches. Ashwin stands third in the list.
