Former Indian Captain and legendary batsman Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the batting consultant for the Indian side led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the tour of England. On Sunday, former India opener and Starsports Commentary panel member, Aakash Chopra tweeted about Dravid’s appointment and also praised BCCI for taking the decision.

Rahul Dravid to be the batting consultant for the tour of England…wonderful decision by the BCCI. #kudos,” Aakash Chopra tweeted.

India will be playing five Tests, five ODIs and a T20I in the England Tour.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said the move was initiated by the team management. “It was the coach who approached us on behalf of the team and said it would be good to have Rahul with his vast experience spend some time with the boys ahead of the series,” said Patel. “We immediately requested Rahul and he readily agreed.”

The India team is already in England and on Saturday completed a three-day warm-up game against Leicestershire which was affected by rain and finally ended in a draw.

Dravid has over 13,000 Test and more than 10,000 ODI runs and ranks among the greatest batsmen in the history of the game.

This will be first major assignment with the Indian team for Dravid since his retirement from international cricket in 2012. He has been part of IPL team Rajastan Royals under Mentor Role.

Dravid has featured in 164 Tests, 344 ODIs and 1 Twenty20 International for India. Coincidentally it was under Dravid’s captaincy that India won their last Test series in England, in 2007 and also it was just second last Overseas Test Series win as India could manage a Series victory after that which was over West Indies in 2011.

The First Test between India-England starts at Trent Bridge on July 9.
