Rahul Dravid has said that it is very hard to understand how India lost nine wickets in just one session, that too on a pitch where the ball was not doing much. After the humiliating innings defeat against England at Old Trafford, Dravid was stunned. In this match, India crumbled in what was possibly the final session of the Test before the rain, which led them to defeat by an innings and 54 runs. It is noteworthy that Rahul Dravid was India’s most successful batsman on their last tour of England that was held in 2011.

Giving his obvious reaction to this shocking defeat, he said, “It (losing 9 wickets continuously) is almost bizarre. It’s hard to understand. India kept losing wickets. It was always going to be difficult for India once they were 215 runs behind but the fact that they lost nine wickets in a session, when the pitch was not seaming and there was no vicious turn, showed tentative cricket. Everything went well for England.”

Most of the fans fully support the views expressed by Dravid. It is really difficult to understand this collapse especially when the Old Trafford pitch was perhaps the best of the series so far. Moeen Ali finished with four of those nine wickets while James Anderson removed Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli to leave India reeling.

It must be added that Dravid had been roped in as batting consultant by the BCCI. This is high time for India to bounce back so as to facilitate at least a drawn series.
