Sri Lanka spinner Rangana Herath bowled amazingly well to record figures of 5-89 and entered the select club in the ongoing second Test vs Zimbabwe Harare on Tuesday. The hosts were bowled out for 272. Herath, Sri Lanka’s stand-in captain for this series, became only the third bowler in history to take a five-for against all Test playing nations.
This was Herath’s first five-wicket haul against Zimbabwe Sri Lanka took a massive 232-run first innings lead. Sri Lanka did not enforce the follow-on and were 102/4 at stumps on Day 3, with an overall lead of 334.
The hosts, in reply to Sri Lanka’s massive total of 504, made a good start but eventually fell well short of the total. They lost their last five wickets for just 19 runs as the Sri Lankans dominated the proceedings. Off spinner Dilruwan Perera also picked up three wickets for 51 runs.
With exceptional figures of 5-89, Herath joined Muttiah Muralitharan and Dale Steyn in the select club. This was surely a performance to remember for lifetime for the spinner.
