Ranji Trophy 2017-18: Saurashtra Crush J&K, Vidarbha Trounce Punjab; Delhi on Verge of Outright win against Railways

Ranji Trophy 2017-18: Saurashtra Crush J&K, Vidarbha Trounce Punjab; Delhi on Verge of Outright win against Railways

As the second round of the premium competition Ranji Trophy 2017-18 kicked-off on October 14, Saurashtra on Monday handed Parvez Rasool-led Jammu and Kashmir side a humiliating loss by an innings and 212 runs on day three of the four day competition, in a Group B fixture in Rajkot.

The 26-year-old right-arm off-spinner Vandit Jivrajani bagged six wickets as bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja claimed seven in the match and was eventually awarded Man of the Match for his all-round show to restrict J&K on 256, a side which was bundled out for 156 in the first innings after hosts posted mammoth total of 624 for seven.

On the other side, in Group A fixture, the Delhi side is on the verge of an innings victory after bowlers did their job against Railways.

Earlier, Delhi scored 447 in their first innings which further saw Delhi bowlers restricting railways to the paltry score of 136 and enforced the follow-on.

Railways were 157 for six at the end of day three, as they require another 154 runs to save themselves from an innings defeat which would be highly improbable task with four wickets in hand.

Interestingly, in the first round of the Ranji 2017-18 opening round at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi, Ishant Sharma-led Delhi failed clinch at outright win against Assam as the game was concluded owing to the controversy.

Group A –

Railways Vs Delhi: Railways are trailing by 154 in the second innings against Delhi, as they were 157 for six in 61 overs when stumps were called.

Avinash Yadav batting on 13 off 30 deliveries alongside top-order batter Bhille, who is unbeaten on 54 off 163.

Karnataka Vs Assam: At the end of day three, Assam were 169 for six in their second innings after being bundled out for 145.

Skipper Gokul Sharma was batting on 62  off 111 balls, as Abu Nechim faced 19 – to score six before resuming the innings on final day.

For Karnataka, off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham leads the wickets tall in second innings with three wickets.

Hyderabad Vs Uttar Pradesh: Match did not start due to the inclement weather, as day two was washed out due to the soggy outfield.

Group B –

Saurashtra Vs Jammu and Kashmir: Hosts convincingly beat miserable J&K by an innings and 212 runs.

Brief Score: Saurashtra first innings: 624 for seven – J&K 156 all out first innings; second innings 256 all out.

Gujarat Vs Kerala: Gujarat require another 83 runs on fourth and final day, as they are 22 for one in 13 overs after Kerala scored 208 and 203 in both their innings.

However, Parthiv Patel-led side posted 307 in their first innings.

Akshay Chandran was the only wicket-taker for Kerala in Gujarat’s second innings.

Rajasthan Vs Jharkhand: The visitors Jharkhand are trailing by 56 runs after being restricted to 265 in its first innings.

Earlier, Rajasthan posted 423, as visitors were 102 for one in 27 after on-field umpires removed stumps.

For Jharkhand opening batsman Nazim Siddiqui was batting on 71 off 96 deliveries, as Virat Singh was batting on eight-ball three.

Group C –

Tamil Nadu Vs Tripura:

Tamil Nadu are leading by 99 runs in the first innings after Tripura could post 258 on board.

At the end of day three, Tamil Nadu was 357 for four in 88 overs.

Baroda Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh are leading by 132 runs after Baroda were all out for 373.

At the stumps of third day’s play, Andhra was 505 for nine in 139.4 overs.

Madhya Pradesh Mumbai:

In the Maharashtra derby, the 41-time Ranji winner Mumbai posted 415 for eight in 123 overs which further saw them leading the Madhya Pradesh by six runs.

Group D –

Punjab Vs Vidarbha: Vidarbha outclassed the hosts Punjab, who are led by discarded batsman Yuvraj Singh, winning the match by an innings and 117 runs in Mohali.

Punjab was bundled out for 161 and 227 in the second innings, as Vidarbha registered a daunting total of 505 in their first.

Chhattisgarh Vs Bengal: In another game at Raipur, Chhattisgarh will resume day four after posting 229 for five in 71 overs when players walked out of the ground.

Ashutosh Singh was batting on 71 off 133, and on the other side, Jatin Saxena scored 12 off 29 balls.

Himachal Pradesh Vs Goa: Goa posting 131 on board for no loss on day three, as the visiting side is still trailing by 239 runs.

Earlier, the hosts posted 625 for seven in their first innings which saw visitors crumbling under pressure only to post 255 at Dharamsala.

The opening batsman showed some resistance with Sumiran Amonkar batting on 67 off 105 and Swapnil Asnodkar not out on 51 off 89 balls.
