The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has delayed the announcement of new Head Coach of Indian cricket team for few days. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which was handed the task to appoint the new coach had said that they needed some more time before finalising a new name.
Sourav Ganguly, a member of CAC, said that the committee needs to talk to some more people before announcing the new coach,
“What we have decided is that we will hold on for the time being. We need a few more days and need to talk to a few people and the captain. And then, we’ll make an announcement. We feel therer’s no hurry at the moment. We will take a call which is the best way forward, I won’t say right because nobody knows what is right or wrong, for the team and the boys. That’s what’s most important for us. We need to speak to the people who will matter, the ones who will take it away from us. Our job finishes and their jobs start,” Ganguly said.
However, the former Indian skipper clarified that Kohli had neither recommended any name of his choice nor has given any inputs regarding the selection of new coach,
“We want to speak to Kohli once he’s back from America. We will explain to him the coaches want to function a certain way and then make the announcement. Once we make it, it has to be until the World Cup,” he added.
The process to select the Head Coach start earlier today and Virender Sehwag was the only man who was presented in front of the committee in person. His interview lasted for more than two hours, Ganguly revealed during the press conference. Tom Moody, LalChand Rajput, Ravi Shastri and Richard Pybus were interview through Skype.
It is to be noted that Sachin Tendulkar, a member of CAC, too wasn’t present at the time of interview and was there through Skype from London.
Phil Simmons, the former Windies coach, was not available for interview and he will appear in front of CAC later, Ganguly informed. He also added that CAC is looking for a person who will be with the team till 2019 World Cup.
It has been learned that Tom Moody and Ravi Shastri had a good talk with the committee. Virender Sehwag too left an impression on CAC with his powerful PowerPoint Presentation, through which he pressed a strong case for himself.
Looking at the events which have happened in the day, Sehwag has emerged out as the favourite of five interviewees in the day due to the fact that he had a long chat with the members of the committee. Also, he was the only man to be present in person, which has a strong impact on the committee as last year questions were raised when Ravi Shastri was not present at the time of interview in person and preferred to be interviewed via Skype instead.
CAC has asked for an indefinite time to announce the new coach and now it seems that there might be a delay of at least a week before skipper Virat Kohli lands back in India from America. It is yet not sure whether team India will have a Head Coach for the Sri Lanka series or not?
