Right from the moment when Team India lost in Asia Cup, the Indian cricket coach and his crew attracted all round severe criticism for their failure. In fact, the inconsistency of team India – despite having a world class team – was highlighted as the failure of Fletcher, who failed to infuse fighting spirit among the Indian players. Also, Fletcher could not develop any suitable strategy for playing on the fast tracks. His bowling coach Dawes also failed miserably. Even the fielding of team India got deteriorated badly. He was criticized for having a laid back attitude. Obviously, his contribution never ever remained visible, resulting in number of defeats faced by team India.

In fact it was quoted on a number of times that team India can only perform on the spin friendly pitches. The pathetic performance of our bowlers in test matches, particularly in the recently concluded England-India Investec series, proved to a saturation point. To infuse fighting spirit and offer positive direction to the visiting team India, former Indian cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri was sent to England as a director for the remaining ODIs and the only t20, with full powers to him.

Now it has been stated that the future of Fletcher will be depending on the report to be submitted by Shastri to BCCI.

“Fletcher’s fate will be decided by Ravi Shastri’s report, which will be tabled at Working Committee meeting on September 26. Today, all the members discussed that one should not go by media’s knee-jerk reaction. The media that blasted Dhoni after Tests is praising him after the ODIs,” a source said.
