Ravindra Jadeja’s Top Five Test Bowling Performances

Behind the sunglasses there’s this astute thinker in form of 28-year-old left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who bowls with such accuracy and great discipline that has bothered most batters in the recent past.

The social media favourite Jadeja, who’s also known as ‘Jaddu’ always wants to be the focus of attention; delivers his best with the bat and ball and in the field too – to boost his team’s morale.

The Gujarat lad is a winner. This makes him special, as he had to deal with the trolls he countered, motivating himself as an individual.

But when he in some kind of a mood, he steals the show.

Ravindra Jadeja played 25 Tests which is spread over 47 innings, bagged 111 wickets which includes 6 five wicket hauls.

Here’s his top 5 Test bowling performances:

5. 5 for 73 against New Zealand at Kanpur

In September 2016, Ravindra Jadeja picked 5 wickets for 73 runs from 34 overs in the first Test against New Zealand at Kanpur.

On Day Three after lunch, in the 95th over Jadeja picked three wickets in the 2nd, 3rd and last ball of the over to give India a lead of crucial 56 runs after sending back Mark Craig, Ish Sodhi and Trent Boult.

India won the match comfortably by 197 runs.

4. 5 for 53 against Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla

In 2013, when under the tutelage of MS Dhoni, India routed Australia 4-0; left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja spun India to a fine victory while running through the Australian batting order by picking 5 for 53.

Many thought that Test cricket is not for the player like Jadeja, but he kept responding with his numbers and took 24 wickets during the home series against Australia.

The match was likely going to be a drawn one, but Kangaroos lost all 10 wickets in the last two sessions on Day 5 in which Jadeja left the then Australian skipper Michael Clarke clueless while holding on his line and length which is his hallmark.

3. 5 for 21 against South Africa at Mohali

In November 2015, Jadeja, who was making a comeback in Test cricket sent down 11.5 overs in the second innings of the first Test of Freedom Trophy against South Africa.

The left-armer bagged 5 wickets while conceding 21 runs to turn around the game. He cherished the wicket of Hashim Amla. India won the Test in three days by 108 runs at Mohali.

2. 6 for 138 against South Africa at Durban

In 2013, after replacing veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for the second Test at Durban against South Africa, Jadeja answered all his critics with his figures of 6 for 138 from the marathon 58.2 overs in the first innings.

Given this, Jadeja was third Indian spinner who has got five or more wickets in an innings in South Africa.

Pouncing on the opportunity, Jadeja left no stone unturned while setting a mark and eagerness to do well in longer format of the game.

1. 7 for 48 against England at Chennai

Ravindra Jadeja tormented England batting order while bagging seven wickets which is his Test career best after conceding 48 runs on a surface which offered a little for spinners and where batters dominated the game for around four days before the England fall like pack of cards.

Jadeja’s all-round performance helped India to thrash visitors by an innings and 75 runs to win the 5-match Anthony De Mello Trophy by 4-0 which looked highly unlikely after the cautious start from English openers.

Jubilant Jadeja had the last laugh while removing Jake Ball to run away with the wicket to celebrate in his own style. With this Jadeja also took his first 10-wicket match haul with the figures of 10 for 154.
