Chennaiyin FC, Chennai’s ISL team announced a major news yesterday when they unveiled MS Dhoni as the Co-Owner of the club. Dhoni, who is not only a cricketer but an ardent sports fan was happy to join the ISL bandwagon. All of a sudden what has made him to invest in an ISL franchise? Here are few reasons why Chennaiyin FC appointed MS Dhoni as their Co-Owner.
Post Retirement Plans
With just one win in his last 16 Tests overseas, MS Dhoni’s resignation from captaincy is looming large. India are scheduled to tour Australia later this year for a four match test series and it will tell whether he will remain the skipper for India when the team travels overseas next time. Already 33, the upcoming 2015 World Cup might be Dhoni’s last tournament as there are large possibilities for Dhoni to call it a day once the tournament gets over. After his retirement, he needs something to keep himself engaged. This might be one of the reason why chose to become the owner of Chennaiyin FC.
MS Dhoni was a goal keeper before choosing his career as cricket. Adding to these, he is also a bike freak. He does not hesitate in standing up for sports and also owns a bike racing team called “Mahi Racing India” for the super sports bike championships. And once, he has said in an interview that his main objective is to develop sports in Indian and he has laid the foundation stone for achieving his aim by buying some stake in the club.
MS Dhoni is not only the captain of India but also the captain of Chennai’s IPL side Chennai Super Kings. Ever since he was brought and appointed the skipper of the team, he has adopted Chennai as his second home and the people in the city has accepted him as their hero. Since Chennaiyin FC is trying to have some local connection with the club, it is not a bad decision to have MS Dhoni as a Co- Owner of the club.
Cricketers attract more people in India
It is a sad fact that in India, cricketers can attract more people than any other sports persons. Everything in India be it advertisements, promotional activities or any other thing will have a cricketer connected to it. Kolkata franchise Atletico de Kolkata roped in former India captain and local hero Sourav Ganguly as the co-owner of the team followed by Kerala Blasters FC who has Sachin Tendulkar as the owner and Virat Kohli, who was appointed as the Co-Owner of FC Goa a week back. No wonder why Chennaiyin FC inked a deal with MS Dhoni for being a stake holder in the team.
Increases his Brand Value
He is the most endorsed sportsperson in India. The ISL fever has started gripping the fans around the country and the organisers and the advertisement partners will look to have MS Dhoni as the brand ambassador for their product which will eventually increase his brand value.
