In the early morning in India a shocking news broke that an Indian cricketer was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping a woman in the hotel they were staying, reports came from New Zimbabwe website.

Indian team is currently touring Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI and three-match T20 series. The Assistant Police Commissioner Charity Charamba was quoted by the site as saying, “The victim has pointed to an Indian national from the batch that came in last week, at this point I’m not in the position to reveal whether it’s a player or official as I’m bound by law. But, what I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday.”

Indicating a ‘potential diplomatic feud’, Charamba said that police have concluded the investigation and they are handling the case with caution.

But, Indian ambassador to Zimbabwe clarified the news and said no Indian cricketer is involved in this case in Zimbabwe.

It was reported that the victim was wandering in the lobby of the hotel at Meikles Hotel in Central Harare, where Team India is staying. According to the report, the victim claimed to have been drugged, then waking up to bloodied undergarments in one of the members’ rooms.

“Certain senior officials from India were seen in the hotel, attempting to pacify the situation. They spoke to the woman, and several of the city’s lawmakers,” the report added.

“No truth in allegations of Indian player being involved in rape case in Zimbabwe,” later in the day BCCI president Anurag Thakur confirmed.
