Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has been roped in to review the performance of his Big Bash League (BBL) side Hobart Hurricanes, after they failed to make it to the finals of the sixth edition of the T20 league.
Ponting met Cricket Tasmania directors and made the news official, the franchise confirmed on Thursday.

Ponting represented Hurricanes in the first two editions and since then, he has been a Channel 10 commentator. His role hasn’t been finalized yet but mainly he would consider reviewing the side’s performance and help them find a better coach to seek more efficient results in future.
The franchise, however, have had a couple of lean seasons, finishing seventh in past two seasons of Big Bash League. Following the conclusion of the sixth edition, the franchise also decided not to renew the contract of coach Damien Wright, citing the need for a new coaching structure.
Cricket Tasmania is set to sit down and review the coaching structures, performances, list management and recruitment of overseas players of the franchise with an aim to win their maiden title. With the experience and knowledge Ponting holds, he would be of big help to the club.
