The World Cup history has, on some occasions, witnessed some matches where a minnow has given a great fight or has won against a stronger nation. Like Ireland, who played their first WC in 2007, defeated Pakistan at Kingston and knocked them out of the tournament. Another example is of Canada, who almost caused an upset against Pakistan at Colombo in ICC World Cup 2011. This time around, we can again witness some upsets, but there are some teams who would not be there to cause them. So, let us take a look at the ones who missed out on the bus to ICC World Cup 2015:
If there is one team I would personally miss in the ICC World Cup 2015, then it is Netherlands. It’s just because of the way these guys played in the ICC World T20 2014. After routing Ireland in the qualifying stage, they defeated England for the second time in World T20 and almost caused another upset against South Africa. It would have been great to watch the likes of Stephen Myburgh, Peter Borren, Ben Cooper, Wesley Barresi play, but unfortunately, their inconsistent performances in the ICC World Cricket League Championship 2013-14 and in ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2014 didn’t deserve them a place in this World Cup.
Till now, Netherlands have featured in the four editions of World Cup i.e. in 1996, 2003, 2007 and 2011.
The semi-finalists of the ICC World Cup 2003 will not feature in world cup for the first time since 1996. Kenya, who also shocked the world by defeating West Indies and Sri Lanka in 1996 and 2003 World Cup respectively, performed badly in the super six stage of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2014 and that’s why they didn’t qualify for this year’s mega event.
Canada, the team that tends to be composed of expatriates from more successful cricketing nations, failed to qualify for this world cup because of their poor performances in the ICC World Cricket League Championship. They won a single match and finished last in the league.
Till now, Canada have featured in the four editions of World Cup i.e. in 1996, 2003, 2007 and 2011.
Like Canada, they also failed to perform in the World Cricket League Championship and got knocked out from the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2014, from which UAE and Scotland got a place among the 14 teams participating in ICC World Cup 2015.
Till now, Namibia have featured in only 2003 World Cup.
