Indian opener Rohit Sharma joined captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in extending solidarity in favor of out-of-form batsman Yuvraj Singh. Rohit, speaking at a press conference on Thursday on the eve of India’s World T20 encounter with Bangladesh, said that he expects the Punjab dasher to come good against Bangladesh on Friday.
Rohit spoke of the southpaw in glowing terms : “As far as Yuvi is concerned, it’s just a question of one innings. If one innings goes well, he will regain the confidence. He has been a fantastic player for the country having won us a lot of T20 matches in the past including World Cups. I sincerely hope that tomorrow is the day when he gets back into form with that one elusive innings. It will be great for the team”.
Rohit sounded dismissive about Yuvraj’s sloppy effort on the field, particularly the missed catches against Pakistan. “Yuvraj is a good fielder but good fielders also sometimes drop catches. It is not a big deal. It’s about that one knock that gives him the confidence and the belief and everything should be alright after that”.
India have won their opening two fixtures in the World T20 and could secure their qualification in the knockout stages with a win against hosts Bangladesh on Friday.
Rohit said that he is hoping that the team can qualify for the semifinals : “Absolutely, this is our best chance to secure qualification for the semis and we are not looking too far ahead. As I mentioned, we have a crucial match tomorrow and we can gradually take things from there on.”
“There is still a long way to go for the semi-final or final. At this moment, we wish to take it one match at a time. Tomorrow’s game, as I just mentioned will be important. We will see what we can do after the completion of tomorrow’s match. We can plan accordingly then.”
