The Background:
Unlike cricket, there are several sports which do not enjoy a huge following in this country and skating is definitely one of them. But in an attempt to change people’s perception towards the lesser-known games, a renowned Sports equipment management company has launched an initiative #FanTheFire. The noble initiative is started with an aim to make the mass focus a bit more on the athletes who play the less-popular games.
Nishchay- A Star In The Making:
Nishchay started as a roller speed skater from an early age of 10 and has gone on to make a name for himself in the game. In 2011, he won Gold in his maiden National Ice Skating Championship held in Shimla. A year later, he attended the National Ice Skating Camp again and competed in singles and pairs event, winning Gold in both.
In 2013, Nishchay won two Silver medals at the National Ice Skating Championship in singles and pairs events. In the following year, he represented India at the World Development Trophy in Manilla, Phillippines, winning a bronze for the nation. In the year 2015, owing to the lack of training infrastructure, he shifted to the United States for six months of rigorous training. Due to the financial issues, he returned to India in December 2015 and won two gold medals in the National Ice Skating Championship in 2016.
He continues to train in the United States with a hope to represent the country in the next Winter Games but needs monetary help to finance his training. Rohit Sharma’s gesture is really beautiful and we hope more people come forward to help this talented skater.
