Former West Indian batting legend Brian Lara has admitted that Rohit Sharma’s recent record breaking knock of 264 off 173 against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI at Kolkata will stay forever. Lara himself owns the record of scoring the highest Test score of 400* against England at the Recreation Ground, Antigua.
Lara said that “When Sharma got to 200, I thought that this man has got to a double century twice in ODIs, but I didn’t knew it was going to go on to something that seemed impossible. I thought 200 was an achievable target when I began my career but Sharma’s mark is a stretch too far for any players starting out now. It is a special innings and I don’t see that innings being surpassed by any of the batsmen.”
He also admitted that he was unfortunate to miss out on majority of the double century as he was on a flight to London for majority of the innings but he arrived at his hotel just in time to see Rohit getting to his double century. Lara also owns the record of highest first class score when he scored 501* for Warwickshire against Durham. Rohit Sharma also became the first batsman to score two ODI double hundreds as he scored his first double ton against Australia at Bangalore last year.
