Captain AB de Villiers has returned to Proteas ODI circuit, while 20-year-old Lungi Ngidi earned a surprising call, as Cricket South Africa announced their 15-member squad for the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting January 28th.
The selection committee has brought in talented all-rounder Chris Morris, whereas big boys also made the cut, after being rested for the T20Is against the visitors.
Ab de Villiers, who returned to domestic cricket with his unbeaten 134 on Sunday, which helped him get back into the green outfit. The right-handed batsman was out of the game for a long time, nearly around six months, as he was sidelined due to an elbow injury. Apart from him, the inclusion of Faf du Plessis, Jean-Paul Duminy and even David Millers put weight on their middle-order.
The inclusion of young fine prospect Lungi Ngidi was all but surprising. His numbers in the two T20Is against Sri Lanka aren’t that bad looking either. In the total of eight overs, Ngidi has picked up six wickets, including a four-fer in the second T20 at Jo’burg. Accompanying him would be Kagiso Rabada, Wayne Parnell and Andile Phehlukwayo. The spin department also looks strong with Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi.
