SA vs BAN 2017: Bangladesh Recall Liton Das, Shafiul Islam for T20Is

Mominul Haque, Liton Das, Rubel Hossain and Shafiul Islam got included in Bangladesh’s new-look squad for the two-match series against South Africa; the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Saturday (October 22).

The Tigers, who will be starting a new journey after the retirement of their talismanic captain Mashrafe Mortaza, will miss the services of Mustafizur Rahman and Tamim Iqbal, owing to injuries.

Mustafizur has been ruled out of the ongoing tour with an ankle injury while left-handed batsman Tamim’s South African sojourn was cut short due to the thigh injury he sustained in the practise game before the start of the Test series.

Tamim had gone on to play the first Test and the second ODI but returned home after aggravating the injury earlier this week.

Subashis Roy, Sunzamul Islam and Nurul Hasan got dropped from the side that toured Sri Lanka earlier this year which Bangladesh’s last T20I assignment.

The new-look Bangladesh side, meanwhile, will have their task cut out against the formidable hosts. The tourists have been thoroughly outplayed in the Test and ODI series so far and will need to play out of their skins to turn the tables in the shortest format of the game.

Moreover, the lack of T20 games will only make it tougher for Shakib Al Hasan & Co. to get back to winning ways in South Africa.

Since the series in Sri Lanka, only two players-  Mahmudullah (CPL) and Shakib (IPL & CPL) have featured in T20 games. On the other hand, Mominul Haque last played a T20I in 2014 while Liton Das last played in the shortest format of the game in 2015 against Zimbabwe.  Shafiul, who had an impressive outing in last year’s Bangladesh Premier League, is also gunning to play his first T20 in four years.

The first game of the series will be played in Bloemfontein on October 26 before the teams move to Potchefstroom for the final game of the series and the tour on October 29.
