The batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who came up with a unique idea of 14 players per sides is now set to get implemented in the finals of the Elite League in both the Harris and Giles Shield.
Earlier it was first executed in the opening knock-out rounds of the Harris Shield last year. Tendulkar has recommended many unique ideas which would benefit the game of cricket. A few years back, he proposed the need of ODI cricket to get divided into four quarters of 25 overs each, with both the sides batting alternatively. The move was intended to rule out the unfair advantage the team batting second enjoys over the team batting first with the dew coming later in the evening.
“I’m happy that more children will get the opportunity to play. The idea is to engage as many children to play sport and leading a healthy life,” Sachin Tendulkar said while talking to Times of India on Wednesday.
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is all set to implement the idea till the Elite finals of the prestigious school tournaments which have given many international players after a request from Tendulkar and Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) secretary Nadeem Memon.
Notably, Memon earlier served as the pitch curator in the Wankhede Stadium. MCA gave their green signal on Wednesday to go ahead with the idea of 14 players per side cricket match. Memon admitted that the master blaster’s idea got appreciated by all the schools, coaches, players, and their parents, as now more and more young children will get the opportunity to play the sport, more importantly, the bowlers. He also added that this decision would add 84 more players who can play the Harris Shield.
“The idea gives coaches a lot of options because it means that 11 good batsmen and bowlers can play out of 14 players in a side. You can nominate 14 players while going out for the toss, and pick the 11 best batsmen and bowlers from that 14,” Memon concluded.
