Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary has praised fellow teammate Wriddhiman Saha for his brilliant knock against New Zealand at Eden gardens as he won the man-of-the-match award for his great knocks in both the innings.
The 31-year old has been in fine form off late as he has managed to score his maiden test century against West Indies last month and has carried the form into the ongoing New Zealand series.
He has scored fifty in both the innings and has remained unbeaten on the each occasion as he scored an impressive 112 runs without getting out in the Eden Gardens Test. After the failure of top order in both the innings, Saha played with the tail as he scored some valuable runs as India won the test quite comprehensively by 178 runs.
“To play such a beautiful innings and stand out from such a star-studded dressing room speaks volumes of Saha’s performance,” Tiwary said.
Manoj Tiwary and Wriddhiman Saha have played many matches together for Bengal team and have been the best players the state has provided the nation since Sourav Ganguly. The Bengal captain has backed Saha to be more successful with Team India as the latter is looking to be a great asset for Virat Kohli in the upcoming games.
”Having played together for so many years, I always had confidence in him. It was just a matter of time that he played a quality knock. To have brought this at his home ground made this doubly special,” he added.
He also confirmed that Saha could be in contention for the second game against Punjab of the Indore test finishes earlier than the scheduled five days. Saha is set to play a major role for Bengal’s Ranji team this season as they look to make a better progress in the tournament.
“Should the Indore Test (October 8-12) finish early, he (Saha) will join the team in Jaipur,” Tiwary has confirmed.
