After being on the back-foot for the first two days of the Bengaluru Test, India pulled off a sensational win as they defended a modest target of 188 to beat Australia by 75 runs. With the win, Virat Kohli’s side have levelled the four-match series 1-1.

The home team was in a huge spot of bother on the penultimate day of the Test when the Australian pacers -Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood- wreaked havoc with the second new ball, as they combined for 5-20 in the space of only 18 balls. India were all out for 274 after starting the day on 213 for 4.

However, the world number one team bounced back after the lunch, taking six wickets in the session before finishing the match half an hour after the tea. Steve Smith’s men resumed the third session on 101 for 6 but lost their remaining four wickets for only 11 runs as India emerged victorious by 75 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was having an average series so far, was the wrecker-in-chief finishing with 6-41.

The win will surely act as a confidence-booster for Virat Kohli’s men after they suffered a humiliating 333-run defeat in the series opener.

Speaking at the post-match presser, Kohli said:“Especially after the way we lost the first Test, we wanted to prove ourselves. Today the boys showed their heart and character along with the crowd. A couple of the sessions were game changing. The moment they did not get big runs in the first innings, we knew we had a chance. The wicket has been relaid. It exactly panned out the way we wanted.”

Meanwhile, the cricketing fraternity has congratulated the Indian team for their remarkable win. Here are some of the messages:

An avid sports lover, i always wanted to pursue a career in football. But just like the millions out there i did not put in the hard work needed to achieve my dream and now i have become a fan instead of the player. Anyway, writing for sports has kept me closer to this field. One more thing, yours sincerely is a die-hard Liverpool fan.
    You will never walk alone.
