Salman Khan to play lead role in an upcoming movie based on 1983 World Cup

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has delivered mega-hits like ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ with director Kabir Khan. The hit duo is currently busy with the shooting of Tubelight, and now they have reportedly teamed up for another upcoming movie which is based on cricket. Reports are suggesting that the project will be based on India’s history victory in 1983 World Cup. The project will be Atul Agnihotri and Alvira Agnihotri’s next production venture and they have reportedly roped in Salman for an important role in the movie and the actor has recommended Kabir’s name as the director.
As quoted in DNA, a source claimed:“Salman has immense faith in Kabir as a filmmaker and after two blockbusters in ETT and BB, the comfort level has only grown stronger with Tubelight. And when Atul and Alvira were looking out for a director to helm their next project, Salman suggested Kabir’s name. He has become like a family member to the Khans.”
If the project pans out then it will not be the first time for Salman Khan to play a sportsman as he has previously played the role of a wrestler in ‘Sultan’ which was a blockbuster. Fans have seen several movies on cricket bieng made in Bollywood in the past and star actors like Akshay Kumar, Amir Khan and Emran Hashmi have donned the role of cricketers in those movies.
The current year has witnessed several movies being made on cricketers. After a movie on former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, the fans are bracing up for the biopics of two of the most loved cricketers of the country- MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.
While Dhoni’s biopic titled ‘M.S. Dhoni- The Untold Story’ is all set to theatres on September 30, Sachin’s biopic is still in making.
