Indian Under-19 team has won the tri-series tournament after defeating Bangladesh Under-19 team by 7 wickets in the final match, which was played at the Jadavpur University Ground in Kolkata.
Batting first, Bangladesh were bundled out for mere 116 runs and a quick fire half century from Sarfaraz Khan ensured that India win the match. Sarfaraz scored 59 runs in just 27 deliveries. India chased down the target in just 13.3 overs.
Sarfaraz was going after the bowlers right from the word go. With his batting abilities, combined with the power, even his mis-timed shots were clearing the fielders. No doubt, many experts rate him high. He showed a glimpse of his class during this year’s IPL, where he played some match defining innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
India were in a spot of bother while chasing the target after they lost 3 quick wickets and were 42 for 3 but then Sarfaraz exploded. He was supported by the captain of the team Ricky Bhui. This series will be a morale booster for the Under19 side, who are set tp play the World Cup in Bangladesh in January next year.
Earlier Bangladesh managed to score 116 runs and things could have been worse had Joyraj Sheik Imon and Najmul Hossain Shanto not put up a partnership of 54 runs. Shanto top scored with 45 runs and Imon scored 28 runs. For India, Mayank Dagar, the left arm spinner picked 3 wickets.
Sarfaraz was named ‘ Man of the Match’ for his performance. The notable aspect is that he had failed on all the other 3 occasions in the series, registering just a single digit score so far, but scored when it mattered. Rishabh Pant, Delhi batsman, was adjudged ‘ Man of the Series’. Rishabh scored 282 runs in the series, highest by anyone in the series.
