Former India opener Virender Sehwag has picked India, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies to reach the semi-finals of the ICC World T20 Cup starting from 8th March. Sehwag has made India the favorites to win the World T20 title for the second time. India won the T20 title in the first edition of the tournament.
“Apart from India, I would pick New Zealand in their group. The teams to watch out for another group will be South Africa and West Indies. India remains favourites to repeat the feat of 2007. They are playing good cricket at the moment and the combinations are working well,” Sehwag said.
“All three formats make their own space. T20 is short and that is why more people like to watch the format. People who prefer hard cricket, they still prefer Test and ODIs. Crowds in India are full even for ODIs and for Test cricket as well there is a serious following,” he added.
The New Zealand team is playing some excellent cricket. This time, they will be captained by Kane Willamson following the retirement of Brendon McCullum. Many kiwi players have experience of playing in Indian conditions.
The South African team has an explosive batting line-up consisting of De Villiers, Amla, De Kock, Duminy and David Miller who can destroy any batting line up. West Indies is also serious contender despite missing four key players.
It promises to be an excellent tournament with 8 best teams and plus 2 teams joining the main round. India will face New Zealand in the first match on 15th March and the biggest match of the tournament India versus Pakistan on March 19th. The next two matches will be against a qualifier and then against Australia.
India has been playing quality cricket since the start of the year winning the series against Australia and Sri Lanka. They are in the finals of the Asia Cup 2016
