Jharkhand’s left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, despite being a consistent performer in the domestic tournament, is yet to get a phone-call from Indian chief electors. 27-year-old spinner picked up 15 wickets in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy for Jharkhand. His performance was instrumental in Jharkhand’s rally till semi-final. Shahbaz Nadeem now has been assured by selectors that his due reward will come to him soon. He said the new selection panel, headed by MSK Prasad, is constantly in touch with him.
“I was very disappointed, to be honest, but since this selection panel took charge I have started hoping again. All the members including MSK sir communicate regularly. It was not the case earlier”
Shahbaz Nadeem in this Ranji trophy season finished off with pretty impressive figures, he picked up 56 wickets in 10 games; combining last two seasons Nadeem had picked up 107 wickets in first-class cricket.
Jharkhand lost in semi-finals to Gujarat, Nadeem’s performance this particular season has been consistent. He was got a chance to represent India A team recently against England, Bangladesh and Australia. These signs are enough to say selection panel reward him for his performance.
Next up is Indian premier league, and if he can do well there, who knows he might get a ticket to England. With other spinners like Jayant Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Parvez Rasool still waiting to make a debut, Indian spin bowling department is having a problem of plenty.
