Shakib Al Hasan Inducted as a Member of the MCC World Cricket Committee

Former Bangladesh skipper and arguably the most significant Bangladesh cricketer to have ever graced the game, Shakib Al Hasan has been made a member of the iconic and prestigious MCC World Cricket Committee, and the southpaw confirmed the report after posting a picture of the letter on his official Facebook handle.

Sharing a picture of the letter where MCC had asked him to get back to them in written confirming his acceptance of the appointment, Shakib wrote:

“I truly feel humbled that you have chosen me to be a member of the Prestigious MCC World Cricket Committee. Thank you for bestowing me with such an honour.”

Shakib last represented his country during the Test series against Australia in September where Bangladesh won their first ever Test match against the Aussies. The southpaw has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to give him rest for the two-match Test series against the Proteas to prolong his career across formats.

In a letter written to his fans and supporters, Shakib said that representing the country over the last many years has taken a toll on him both physically and mentally and a short break will surely help him regain his focus back and return triumphant. Shakib has been Bangladesh’s asset across format over the years and given his credibilities the BCB sanctioned him the leave without any fuss.

Meanwhile Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim wasn’t particularly happy with Shakib missing the two Tests as he is a crucial member of the team.

“Shakib wrote a letter to us asking for a six-month break,” Akram said. “He can miss the first Test against South Africa but if he wants, he can play the second Test. He will not be travelling with the team but he can tell us what he decides to do.”

Akram further stated that they must be keeping in mind the fatigue factor of the players and shouldn’t always keep thinking about themselves.

“We can’t always be thinking about us. We should also keep his fatigue into consideration,” Akram said.

Bangladesh are currently playing the series in South Africa and are trailing 0-1 after losing the opening Test by 333 runs.
