Just a day after experiencing their first win in the Test series against Pakistan at U.A.E., the West Indies selectors awarded the star of the game, Shane Dowrich by giving him a maiden call-up in the ODI squad at the expense of experienced and the probably the last man of Windies’ old squad, Marlon Samuels.
In their squad announced for the tri-series to be played at Zimbabwe (with Sri Lanka being the other team), selectors have made quite a few changes as they’ve shelved underperforming Marlon Samuels and Alzarri Joseph from the squad. Miguel Cummins, who last played an ODI in February 2014, has been called into the squad to replace the U-19 pacer of this year’s World batch, Alzarri Joseph. Both Cummins and Joseph made their Test debut during the Test series against India.
Kieron Pollard, who was already informed about his exclusion and Denesh Ramdin could also not make it to the squad. Uncertainty still looms over one question that whether Gayle has been dropped or is he still unfit?
Gayle was the part of West Indies squad for two T20Is against India played in Florida but was not included for Pakistan ODIs citing fitness issues. There has been no news regarding him from then. Also, he hasn’t played any competitive game from the past three months.
Rovman Powell, the West Indies A player who did well in List A matches against Sri Lanka A, has been included. The Tri-series will kick off from November 14 at Harare sports club and will end on November 27 with the final to be played at Queen Sports Club in Bulawayo.
West Indies squad: Jason Holder (Captain), Carlos Brathwaite, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shane Dowrich, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Carter, Johnson Charles, Shanon Gabriel, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine, Ashley Nurse, Sulieman Benn, Miguel Cummins, Shai Hope, Rovman Powell.
