After announcing his retirement from the chairmanship of world cricket’s governing body International Cricket Council (ICC), Shashank Manohar on Friday has agreed to the request from ICC to continue as the chairman of the board until the completion of the ICC’s resolution which further include the reforms for the revenue sharing model in a bid to complete the governance procedure during the annual meet of the ICC members in April.
“ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar has today agreed to defer his recent resignation following an ICC Board resolution to request him to remain in post was passed with overwhelming support earlier this week, an ICC press release stated.
However, the ICC’s annual meeting will be held at its headquarters in Dubai to decide on the financial structures and his new successor.
The supreme cricket body had praised the efforts of Manohar as he would be extending his hand until the completion of the ongoing development in the world cricket body.
“In a significant show of support for Mr. Manohar the Board asked him to withdraw his resignation or at the very least defer it until the ongoing process relating to governance and financial restructuring are completed,” an ICC release added.
While holding on to his resignation, Manohar expressed he would work for the betterment of the game alongside his members in the apex board of the cricket.
The reports suggested the members of the several boards had thrown full support behind Manohar.
“I have duty to work with my colleagues to enable a smooth transition and continue our work on the governance of the ICC,” Manohar said in the release.
On March 15, Manohar stepped down as the ICC chairman after citing personal reasons behind his resignation which took many by a surprise.
“I respect the sentiments expressed by the Directors and the confidence they have reposed in me. In the light of this, and although my decision to depart due to personal reasons has not changed, I am willing to continue as Chairman till the responsibility as per the resolution is complete.
In the recent past, the lawyer had also presided the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 2008-2011 before being re-elected in October 2015 after the death of Jagmohan Dalmiya.
