Reports suggests that former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, who has been named in the 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup, is reluctant to make himself available for the final World Cup selection as he fears that he can be reported for suspect action.
Pakistan selectors are considering to pick Malik for the World Cup if Mohammad Hafeez and Saeed Ajmal fail to correct their bowling action in time. But with this news on Malik, the selectors will surely be hoping that Hafeez and Ajmal get their action revamped well in time.
A Source close to Malik told PTI that:
“Malik is working on his bowling action and bowling more these days but he is concerned as he has some lucrative contracts to play in foreign T20 leagues in coming months and doesn’t want to jeopardize them at this stage.”
Former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja is also sceptical of Malik’s bowling action and said that his action could be called as soon as he starts playing international cricket.
“The ICC new protocol is tough for bowlers and off-spinners and he could face problems but he now definitely can be considered because of his all-round abilities,” he said.
