Delhi Daredevils (DD) skipper JP Duminy has lavished praise on young Mumbaikar Shreyas Iyer by saying that the right-handed batsman has all the credentials to make a name for himself at the international level.
During an interview, Duminy said:
“He is a massive talent for India. I have told to his face that he will play for India in 2 to 3 years.”
Iyer, who has been a bright spot for Delhi Daredevils amid their poor show in IPL 8, has accumulated 419 runs in 13 matches so far with four 50+ scores and 20 sixes. Last night against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he played a blistering innings of 70 off just 49 balls with 10 fours and a six that helped his team seal a victory by 6 wickets. His good shows also makes him a top contender to win the Emerging Player of the Year award.
Iyer made his first-class debut in 2014. In the 10 matches so far, he has amassed 809 runs at an healthy average of 50.56 with 2 hundreds and 6 fifties.
With India scheduled to tour Bangladesh in June for a one-off Test and three ODIs, it can be said that he has a good chance to get selected if the selectors decide to rest some senior players.
