Sir Richard Hadlee picks Virat Kohli as the best batsman of the current generation

One of the greatest fast bowlers and all-rounders in Cricket history, Sir Richard Hadlee is the latest one who is very impressed with Indian batsman Virat Kohli.

The 27-year old is a world class player and a real joy to watch feels the legendary fast bowler who took 431 wickets in just 86 test matches for New Zealand.

“He is world class clearly and is a phenomenal player. It’s a real joy to watch (he play). He plays proper cricket shots in all forms of the game, even in T20 cricket. The four hundred in a row he scored in the IPL were beautiful to watch.

“He stamps his impression on the game and looks to dominate the bowlers. It takes a brave batsman to do that and he is showing no fear. (He’s) beautiful to watch,” said the 64-year old.

Hadlee has also picked New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and South Africa’s  AB de Villiers among the best there in the business right now.

“They (Williamson and Kohli) are different sorts of players. Kane Williamson is a fantastic player. He, without a doubt, will be our best-ever batsman.

“He (Williamson) will break all the New Zealand batting records in time and again, he plays normal cricket shots. He just places the ball, sometimes he has the power-hit, but (generally) he plays normal cricket shots,” he said.

“(AB) De Villiers is another of those really destructive and orthodox players who can take the game away. So they are the top three in world cricket and rankings would reflect that. They are different and a joy to watch,” he added.

Asked if Virat Kohli should lead team India in all the three formats, the 64-year old has declined to comment as he feels it is up to BCCI to make a decision.

“I don’t want to interfere with what India do. It’s not unusual to have different captains in different forms of the game. That’s the decision for local authorities (to take),” he said.

Virat Kohli has been in superficial form since the start of 2016 as he piled up runs in every tournament he featured in. He was awarded the man of the tournament in 2016 T20 World Cup and also scored 973 runs for RCB in this IPL season making him break many records in the process.
