Former Indian legendary skipper Sourav Ganguly conveyed his best wishes to Team India coach Ravi Shastri but was reluctant to comment on his views that this current Indian team has exceptional abilities which no other Indian team had earlier. Shastri had earlier claimed that this team is the best ever team and can go on to create history in the upcoming years and win much more laurels for the country.
“To be honest, I don’t have much to say on this. Wish him all the best. Given him a job to do till the World Cup in 2019 and hopefully, he will get the Cup and does the job,” Ganguly was quoted as saying by India Today. The southpaw, however, reminded us not to forget the series victories in Pakistan in 2003-04 under his captaincy and the Test series win in England in 2007 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid.
“You’re forgetting the win in Pakistan for the first time in Pakistan in 15 years. Also the win in England in 2007. Won’t go into comparisons. Wish him all the best. Want the team to do well and hopefully he will do well in the years to come,” Ganguly said. Meanwhile, it is a known fact that Shastri and Ganguly don’t share the best of bonding of late especially after Ganguly’s absence from the coach selection meeting last year when Anil Kumble was elected as the head coach.
It is learnt that both Ganguly and Shastri have moved on from that incident as the former was part of the Cricket Advisory Committee who picked Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach. Though it remains doubtful whether Shastri was their first choice but it was learnt that Shastri was Virat’s choice and the Advisory Committee decided to give the preference to the team and the captain.
Ganguly also heaped praise on Indian captain Virat Kohli saying that he has got all the ingredients and his improvement as a captain has been praiseworthy. Ganguly also expressed his delight at watching Cheteshwar Pujara bat and predicted the Saurashtra lad to play at least 100 Tests for his country.
Ganguly didn’t give any chance to Sri Lanka in the remaining two Tests saying that it will be a Herculean task for the Islanders to even compete with India especially after horrendous performance against minnows Zimbabwe.
