India won the second test against New Zealand by 178 runs to win the series 2-0 and reclaimed the number 1 spot in ICC Test ranking. Under the captaincy of Kohli, India won test series against Sri Lanka, South Africa , West Indies and New Zealand.
One of the greatest test captains for India, Sourav Ganguly said that the future of the current test team is bright under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli has won series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and New Zealand.
“I have got faith in him and I think Indian cricket has a very bright future under Virat Kohli as the captain and all our good wishes are with him,” Ganguly told India Today.
“Kohli knows that the No. 1 spot is not a foolproof one. He needs to win in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and England to be the No. 1 side and he’s looking forward to that. I think that’s the right way to go about it,” he said.
“I was surprised when there were questions about his batting form a couple of days ago. We expect Kohli to keep performing because captain or not captain, his ability as a batsman is so much that he scores runs in all conditions,” Ganguly said.
His form with the bat in ongoing test series against New Zealand has been poor. In the second innings of the second test at Kolkata, he played an important innings of 45 to bring back India into the match.
Under his captaincy, the Indian team has become number 1 and would like to continue his form in test series against England and Australia at home.
