According to the reports in the Australian media, Sydney Thunders are looking to rope in AB deVilliers for the next season of Big Bash. Reports also says that they have also put forward a bid to get him next year.
de Villiers has recently taken over from Amla as the captain of South Africa’s test team but has raised concerns over how long he will continue to play this format. There were rumours about his retirement from Test cricket and deVilliers added that there’s a bit of truth in this and he will be considering many factors in the coming days.
Sydney Thunders, who represents the Western Sydney part in the BigBash, have Jacques Kallis and Andre Russell as foreign players. Kallis is currently injured and has been replaced by New Zealand batsman Henry Nicholls. They are being captained by Mike Hussey, who has been in tremendous form in the ongoing season but the problem is that the ongoing season is going to be his last Big Bash.
Sydney Thunders will be looking for a new captain next season as well as have a full-time replacement for Jacques Kallis and there is no confirmation if Andre Russell will be available for them next season.
de Villiers thus looks a natural option, especially after he has shown interest to play in different leagues. Currently, he is captaining South Africa in the ongoing 3rd Test match vs England. South Africa are 1-0 down in the series and will be looking to bounce back in the series.
