South Africa’s ODI Rankings Improves After Sri Lanka Series

  • The South African team looks in prime touch at the present moment. Though they did not manage to impress much in the World T20 this year but they have been predominant in the ODIs they played this year. First, they won the series against India earlier this year by a margin of 2-0 and lately, they even clinched a series win against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. This happens to be their first series victory in Sri Lanka. This team has got many of the extra-ordinary talents and also the team looks in prime touch under the leadership of their new captain, AB De Villiers. De Villiers himself is a trump card for the team and also leading his team perfectly.

With the help of such emphatic victories, South African team have gained their spot in the present ICC ODI rankings and they presently stand in the 4th position behind Australia, India and Sri Lanka. They are at equal points alongside Sri Lanka with 111 points. Australia tops the list with 115 points.

However, there might be a change in the ranking positions as there is a gap of only 4 points between the first and the fourth team. There might be some shuffling in the positions prior to the World Cup. Also, South Africa has the chance to be at the topmost ranking position ahead of the World Cup. They will play a total of 17 ODIs before the World Cup which increases their chances.

The present South African team also is perfectly poised with the batting order led by the likes of Hashim Amla, Quinton De Kock, JP Duminy and the skipper, AB De Villiers himself. Also the bowling department is maintained by the speedster, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Ryan McClaren. Also there are some options of spin with Imran Tahir.

There can be changes in the rankings. We have to wait and watch.
