Tim Southee is all geared up to take on the England challenge. On a personal note, Southee has been in sensational form and his numbers in the World Cup were terrific. Southee had simply demolished the English batting single handedly in the World Cup as he took a 7-fer.
With the Test series due to begin today, Southee says that he is ready to take the English batsmen head on. He surely will enjoy bowling at Lord’s and the English conditions are well known to assist swing bowlers.
Southee though, showered praise on his English counterpart James Anderson. Anderson recently went past Sir Ian Botham as England’s all time leading wicket taker in tests. Anderson is just three scalps away from making it to the magical 400 wickets mark.
Southee said that he was desperate to replicate the success of James Anderson.
“I love watching Jimmy with the Dukes ball,” Southee said. “I believe he’s the best exponent of swing, especially with the Dukes. It’s great to see how he goes about it. As a swing bowler it’s nice to challenge yourself against someone you’ve looked up to and you can compare yourself to. He’s probably the best swing bowler going around at the moment.”
Southee said he is always trying to learn as a bowler by studying his contemporaries. “As a cricketer you are always looking to improve your game, so watching the likes of him and Dale Steyn, whose records speak for themselves, you try to pick up things that will help yourself.”
