The Indian selectors who met in Delhi named India’s squad for the side’s upcoming tour of Australia. The core unit of the Indian unit was the one as expected and similar to the team which lost the ODI series at home against South Africa in October.
India’s miracle boy Yuvraj Singh was handed a comeback for the T20I series, but not the ODI series. Yuvraj off late has been in sparkling form as he has amassed over 340 runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy in 5 games. Suresh Raina too was ignored from the ODI team.
From the T20I front, veteran pacer Ashish Nehra made a comeback after a stunning 2015 IPL. Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya was selected in the T20I squad as well. A surprise selection was that of Brainder Sran, the left arm Punjab pacer. Sran has the ability to be effective on Australian pitches.
Ravindra Jadeja and pace spearhead Mohammad Shami were back in the ODI squad after missing out against South Africa. While Jadeja last played an ODI against Bangladesh, Shami’s last ODI fixture was against Australia in the semi-final of the 2015 World Cup.
The Indian top order is more or less settled with Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane forming the top order.
