Sri Lanka Cricket To Set An Inquiry In Premier League First Class Game

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will form a panel to conduct an independent inquiry in the premier league game between Panadura Sports Club and Kalutara Physical Culture Club, which came under scanner after the odd pattern of scoring and fall of wickets in the game. The game was played in a pretty odd way on the final day, which has not gone down well with other teams in the league and has now cast doubt over the integrity of the game.
The third day of the game came under scanner as at the end of the day two, the match was heading towards a draw when only 12 wickets fell in the first two days of the three-day game but 25 wickets fell on the third and final day and it was Panadura Sports Club that won the game, chasing a target of 165 in just 13.4 overs.
The third innings of the game, also raised eyebrows as Kalutara Sports Club lost 10 wickets with a score of 197, in 22.5 overs they batted. The run-rate in the third innings also was odd as at one stage, the match was heading towards a lame draw but in no time, the two teams showed urgency to compute a result out of the game, which did raise doubt to other teams in the league and the Sri Lanka Board President, K Mathivanan has now ordered an inquiry into the matter,
“Yesterday the cricket committee met and they got the reports from the match referee and the umpires. They will give their observations, and the Executive Committee will be appointing a three-member committee to inquire. Most probably by tomorrow the committee will be appointed.”
“We want the inquiry to be unbiased, so it has to be independent,” Mathivanan said. “The transparency will be there, and justice will be done.”
