Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim on Sunday had expressed that visitors have a great opportunity to script some sort of a history during the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka which is scheduled from March 7 in Galle.
“Yes, they [Sri Lanka] will be under pressure because they know we are more matured and we are playing better cricket, so yes, there is an opportunity, but that depends upon how well we can play,” Mushfiqur was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
The 28-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur is confident of his team to perform well on the Island.
“They would also be aware of Bangladesh doing well in recent times. We also have Sri Lankans in our coaching staff who can provide us with key information. So taking everything into consideration, we do have a chance in front of us.” Mushfiqur was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.com
The Bogra-born Mushfiqur is also in splendid form as he has scored Test centuries against India and New Zealand in the last two Tests he has played.]
“Every series is an opportunity. There’s no doubt about that. And this time, they don’t have their best cricketers, who have served them for so long, with them,” Mushfiqur added.
However, has further mentioned the Sri Lanka would be a new-look team for them as many senior players are missing this time in the Lankan squad before saying they had a chance to give their best.
Adding to the experience, Mushfiqur has stated the bowling department would play a significant role which includes their go-to bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who has been inducted into the squad.
Mushfiqur also urged the bowlers should come up to give their best after the recently concluded sole-Test against India and Test series in New Zealand.
“I must say that the opposition will feel the pressure playing against a bowling attack that has Shakib [Al Hasan], Mustafizur [Rahman] and [Mehedi Hasan] Miraz,” Mushfiqur further said.
Mushfiqur has also admitted that the fielding was not up to in the recent past.
“I think our fielders are also to blame for the bowlers not living up to expectations,” Musfiqur revealed.
Mushfiqur said veteran spinner Rangana Herath would be visitors’ threat during the series.
“[Rangana] Herath is one of the best bowlers in the world, so we will have plans for him like we do for every player,” Mushfiqur concluded.
The right-handed batsman has played 52 Tests for Bangladesh in which he has scored 3072 runs at an average of 34.51 which include five hundreds and 15 fifties.
