Carrying on his rich vein of form in Test cricket, India’s ever elegant opener KL Rahul notched up his seventh consecutive half-century in the format.
Electing to bat first on a fine batting deck, the Indian openers fully repaid the faith instilled in them by skipper Virat Kohli, as the dazzling duo of KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan rampaged from the offset. The two put up a century stand for the first wicket in no time, and are currently playing with a run rate of over five in the first session.
Both openers notched up their respective half-centuries, as the lifeless Sri Lankan bowling failed to pose any questions for the duo. Rahul entered an elite list upon reaching his fifty.
With seven half-centuries in his previous seven Test innings, which begins with the Bangalore Test against Australia, Rahul has now equalled the world record for the most number of consecutive fifty plus scores. The first spot for the prestigious record is now held by a joint six people, including the latest entrant, KL Rahul.
With nine half-centuries and four centuries in his brief Test career so far, Rahul has definitely made a niche for himself in this Indian Test side. The fascinating aspect has been that Rahul has done well away from home as well, in Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka.
With India set to tour for a round of overseas tours, the side would expect Rahul to maintain his form and consistency in the near future too.
