It was right on these shores that Virat Kohli tasted his first success as India’s Test captain and the team put forward a show of sheer resilience and determination. After a gruelling 24 months later, India returns to Sri Lanka for a full fledged tour, their first complete tour of the nation since 2008.
A couple of years earlier, though, the then heavily inexperienced Indian outfit created magic as the team went on to beat Sri Lanka in their own den for the first time in 22 years.
Since that series success, the Indian side has matured tremendously. Having gained some valuable experience in captaincy, Virat Kohli now leads a side that is ranked at the first position in the ICC Test rankings. Apart from Kohli, though, there have been some other names as well, who have played a key role in India’s rise as a Test unit.
