Sri Lanka Vs India 2017: Who Should Replace Ravindra Jadeja For Pallekele Test?

With Ravindra Jadeja getting a one-match suspension for his conduct in the recently-concluded second Test against Sri Lanka, left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav looks set to a play his second Test.  Jadeja, who has adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round display in the series-clinching win, was handed the one-match suspension after he was found guilty of breaching article 2.2.8 of the player’s code of conduct.

Jadeja had scored 70 in the first innings of the match before taking a decisive 5-wicket haul in the second innings as India thrashed the hosts by an innings and 53 runs to seal the series.

And while it will be tough for India to replace the in-form all-rounder, Kuldeep Yadav looks set to take his place in the third Test scheduled to be played at Pallekele from August 12. Hardik Pandya’s presence has bolstered the already strong batting lineup and with pitch set to assist spinners, India will be tempted to include Kuldeep in the playing eleven.

The chinaman spinner has already impressed one and all in the limited opportunities he had got at the international stage. The 22-year old, who shot to limelight after taking a hat-trick in 2014 Under-19 World Cup, made his Test debut earlier this year against Australia in Dharamsala and made an instant impact by taking 4 for 68 dismissing the likes of David Warner and Glenn Maxwell. He was not included in the team for the Champions Trophy but was a part of the team that toured West Indies last month for a limited-overs series. He impressed once again and finished the five-match ODI series as its highest wicket-taker.

Even in the two-day warm-up game against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI, he made an impact by picking up 4 wickets and is looking set to replace Jadeja in the third and final Test.

India, meanwhile, will be hoping to continue the winning streak and inflict a whitewash on the struggling hosts. India had inflicted a whitewash on the island nation in 1993 when they had thrashed them 3-0 but the win had come at home. Moreover, India has never managed to win all the Tests of a series outside the country and the high-flying Kohli-led side will be keen to break the duck.
