For India, the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka marks the commencement of the team’s campaign for the 2019 ICC World Cup in England.
The five match affair will be the side’s first ODI series with Ravi Shastri being the full-time coach. The side selected for this series, will more or less remain among the blueprints for the mega event in 2019, which remains the ultimate target.
With question marks being raised over the form and future of several players, including that of veteran Yuvraj Singh, it will be interesting to see the players making the cut for the series. One likely candidate to make a comeback to India colours in the series is expected to be Suresh Raina. The southpaw, who last played an ODI game way back in October 2015 against South Africa in Mumbai, is on the verge of making a comeback.
Raina, along with a few members of India’s ODI team is presently training at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. A few hours ago, the BCCI conducted a rigorous fitness Test of the players, who could be a part of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. To appear in the Test, were Raina, former skipper MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav.
The positive aspect emerging in was that Dhoni along with Raina aced the fitness Test, and soon took to social media in order to spread the news. In a post, Dhoni mentioned about his feat and shared it on his Facebook page.
Raina too took to Twitter in order to express his delight about his comeback route. The southpaw shared an image with Dhoni, terming the former skipper as his inspiration.
