Pakistan tried hard all day to wake up the djinn of Galle to come to the aid of their bowlers. It responded, showed signs that it could be waking up from the slumber on the fifth day, but by then Kumar Sangakkara, the run-machine, had wielded his magic, given Sri Lanka lead and had left the Pakistan batsmen to face the djinn’s ire. That is, if it has woken up. Pakistan lost one wicket at the starting of their second innings at the end of the fourth day. Younis Khan saved the batting disaster in 1st innings. The fourth day of the test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan went in favour of Sri Lanka with a double ton from Kumar Sangakkara. At the stumps of the fourth day, Sri Lanka was ahead of Pakistan with a lead of 82 runs. Third session of the fourth day went in favour of Pakistani bowlers. After the end of 6th over they scored 4 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.
Ahmed Shehzad with the night watchman Saeed Ajmal came out to the crease. Prasad and Eranga looked very eager to take a wicket at the initial stage of first session and Prasad succeeded and got Saeed Ajmal into his trap. Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali looking for a big partnersip. After the end of 25th over Pakistan scored 34 runs for loss of 2 wickets. Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali rotating the strikes pretty fast. At the end of 27th over Perera got him. Shehzad contributed 16 runs. Star of Pakistan’s 1st innings Younis Khan occupied his position on the crease to hit a big score. In the second innings Younis Khan did not clicked. Before lunch Younis Khan was out by Herath and Misbah Ul Haq took his place on the crease. Sri Lanka are buoyed after that session that has brought them three wickets – including the big one of Younis – while the score hasn’t gone anywhere. Pakistan manages 62 runs in the 32 overs and still find them behind by 16 runs. It looked like there was nothing in the pitch for the bowlers during that first hour. Till Lunch Pakistan were at 66 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
In the second session Azhar Ali and Misbah Ul Haq in great hurry to set a big score for Sri Lanka to make the match more interesting. After the 51st over they scored 96 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Herath and Perera were working hard to get one of these batsmen. At last Perera succeeded and got Misbah Ul Haq in 59th over. Ashad Shafiq came to Misbah’s place but before he could settled he had to walk for dressing room as Herath got him in 64th over. He contributed only 8 runs. In this moment Sarfraz Ahmed was on fire. On the other hand Abdur Rehman was giving him support but Eranga took this support. The ball kissed the outside edge through to the keeper. This partnership had almost survived for 50 balls but Pakistan lose their 8th at the stroke of tea. The pitch had not turned or spat, it’s a combination of some excellent discipline from the Sri Lanka bowlers, some smart captaincy from Angelo and a muddled approach from Pakistan. Once Younis and Misbah were dismissed, Pakistan were always going to be in trouble. The lead is only 71. At the tea Pakistan scored 153 runs for the loss of 8 wicket.
Sarfraz Ahmed was playing aggressively from the second session. It was third session he was still on fire and got his half century in 78th over. Sri Lanka was taking advantage of the other side of the pitch and took the wicket of Talha. Last man Junaid Khan came in place of Talha, but did not get chance to set a big score as Herath trapped him into his trap in 81st over. Sri Lanka was needed 99 runs in 21 overs. Mahela Jayawardene wass walking out to open the innings to loud cheers from the crowd. Tharanga and Jayawardane was too aggressive to win this match. From the very beginning they started the show. They were building a good partnership and boosted the team score but Tharanga was trapped into Junaid’s trick. He looked very deadly today. After he end of 8 over Sri Lanka was at 33 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. The Key player of the match Sangakkara came in. His cool, calm nature looked like the calm enviorment before the storm. In this session from the beginning he was on fire too. Junaid Khan trapped a big one onto his net. Jayawardane gave himself a lot of room but got a yorker on the middle stump that he missed. He contributed a fast 26 runs on the board. Sri Lanka was slowly moving towards the victory. Mathews and Sangakkara was rowing the run boat pretty well towards the destination but Talha get the breakthrough and made this match interesting throwing a question that “Can Sri Lanka Win this match?” Sri Lankan crowd were preparing the firecrackers for celebration as they are reaching the winning point slowly. Mathews was on fire. It looked like Mathews was playing a T20 match. He dabbed the ball to midwicket and sets off. Sri Lanka won the match by 7wickets. The firecracker stock was still alive and they have all been set alight. It has started to pour down.
