The 5th day of the 2nd Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan started with being a mere formality. The stage was set for a Lankan legend to say good bye to the game, surely on a high note. Pakistan resumed with an overnight score of 127 runs for 7 the loss of 7 wickets and it was all left to one guy to spark a sort of impossible, Sarfraj Ahmed , the only positive for Pakistan out of this tour. With so many questions over his inclusion in the side, he answered all his critics in style. Wahab Riaz needed to play a second hand to Sarfraz.

Things were looking good for Pakistan as both the ovenight batsman looked comfortable at the crease. But, once Sarfraz fell, it was never within the rach of pakistan and the fact that Junaid Khan was not fit to bat made the case even more difficult for Pakistan.  Wahab Riaz fell for the score of 17 runs and with that the Pakistan innings bundled out, losing the game by 105 runs.

With this Sri Lanka won the 2 match series 2-0 , a perfect farewell for their legend Mahela Jayawardene. The star of the series for Sri Lanka was Rangana Herath, who was awarded both Man of the Match and Man of the Series . He now has most Man of the Match awards in Test cricket after the 2011 World Cup. Another record that came his way is the most wickets in a 2 -match Test series. He picked up 23 wickets in the series , breaking the record of his ex teammate Muralitharan , who had 22 wickets.

Another interesting record that came after this match finished that all the 3 Asian giants played a Test match which started on their Independence Day and all the 3 lost it.

The match also had an influence on the ICC rankings, with Sri Lanka rising to the 4th spot and Pakistan slipping down to 6th place and India being at 5th position.
