The former Indian player and the current spin consultant of Australian cricket team, Sridharan Sriram, is leading the race for the post of Head Coach of UAE national cricket team.
It is learnt that the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) is in search of a new prospect, since Aaqib Javed stepped down as the coach of the national side last year in the month of April, after performing the role for a period of four years. Javed was appointed as the coach of the side in 2012 for a three years contract.
Reportedly, Sriram has agreed to the offer of UAE and the talks are in the final stage, owing to Sriram’s availability due to his other commitment as the assistant coach of IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils.
“I have no comment on this. Whenever we are ready to announce we will let the media know about it. We don’t comment on rumour,” ECB board member and official spokesperson, Zayed Abbas said.
Sriram, who represented India in eight ODIs has been the man whom Australian Cricket Board have looked up to whenever their national side or even the A team have toured India in past two years.
Under his guidance Australian spinners Steve O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon found success on India tour, with each of them picking up their career best figures. O’Keefe bagged 12/70 in the Pune game whereas Lyon had eight Indian wickets in first innings of the Bengaluru Test.
